The rapid advancement of technology, particularly AI, presents both opportunities and challenges. There is a pressing need to ensure that technological progress benefits all members of society, rather than exacerbating existing inequalities.

• How can we design AI systems that are ethical, transparent, and inclusive?
• What policies and frameworks are needed to ensure equitable access to technological advancements?

Our Approach

Most prominent AI and machine learning systems we interact with today are inscrutable–there is little most users know about how they function, what data they work with, and how they evolve. The Design and Engineering group within UCLA’s AI Futures Lab will demystify large language models, neural networks, and GPT-type AI systems by presenting best practices in design and tutorials for the wider public to learn how to design such systems.
